Well, it's in. Can you say doosie?
The Blue Ribbon Commission for Health Care Reform submitted its recommendations. Evidently, 24 of the 27 commissioners who endorsed the Commission's recommendations really believe, in true socialist fashion, that the state is best qualified to run health care and should, regardless of cost. Either that, or they have economic dogs in this fight.
In its words, this Commission's recommendations, its 5th proposal, is a bold yet realistic package that can be implemented in stages. I'm not making this up - this characterization is right there on the web site: http://www.colorado.gov/cs/Satellite?c=Page&cid=1201542097631&pagename=B....
The Colorado State Association of Health Underwriters submitted a proposal that melds personal responsibility, prudent risk assessment, and reform of medical malpractice laws into a reasonable package at a cost of $1.366 billion. Did the Commission include these elements in its proposal? Nope! The Commission's proposal costs $2.68 billion, and it's only a starting point! How much could it cost? Well, one proposal very close to the Commission's in philosophy, costed out at $26.578 billion.
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see what's going on here. Like the proverbial salesman getting his foot in the door, this Commission pushes its bargain plan as a launching pad for astronomically high costs. Using the report's figure, extending coverage to 694,500 individuals who currently do not have insurance, costs $3,859 for each of these individuals under the Commission's entry plan. At $26.578 billion, that's $38,269 to cover each of those 694,500 individuals. Ask yourself, how much health insurance can you buy for an annual premium of $38,269?
The most revealing thing to note is that the annual benefit cap in these proposals is comparable to that $38,269 annual premium! Hmmm, funny how that works, isn't it? What does it take to twang your suspicious nerve?
Make no mistake about it, this Commission was stacked with blue ribbon socialists. And you won't believe the tax increases this Commission envisions to pay for these plans.
