American Lives Lost

I realize today is Martin Luther King day but I just received an e-mail reminding me that tomorrow is the anniversary of another important day in America, although maybe not one to be celebrated. Tuesday January 23, 2008 is the 35th anniversary of the Supreme Court of the United States passing of Roe v. Wade.

Since this landmark decision over 40 million Americans have lost their lives, not to the army of another country, not to radical Islamists but at the hands of other Americans before they were even allowed to take their first breath.

This will not be the day of celebration for the struggles of a great American, instead it will be a day of reflecting on a tremendous loss. How many Martin Luther Kings, how many Ronald Reagans, how many Mother Theresas, how many precious lives? So the next time we stand up and sing God Bless America we may want to ask ourselves how long we actually expect Him to do so.
